design guide to emergency lighting
what are they?
The emergency lamps provide vital lighting when it fails the normal supply of electricity which is the cause :failure of the power line , tripping of circuit breakers for protection, up to, to serious cases of fire, lightning, flooding.
why use them?
Being able to see , with an appropriate degree of illumination is the essential prerequisite for work in all situations of risk. The emergency lighting becomes a key component for the safety of persons .
where to use them?
Various laws and DM establish precise reference standards for locations ranging compulsorily equipped with emergency lighting. It is required to use in all crowded places, both indoors and outdoors, so schools , workplaces , places of public entertainment , hospitals , to name just a few examples. Even in the home , emergency lighting acquires a fundamental importance for the safety of persons .
how to choose?
The right selection of emergency lights presupposes knowledge of the various types and key features.
type of operation
Models with continuous operation or SA . The lamp remains on constantly both in the presence and absence of the network, this type of operation is normally required for the lighting of escape routes . Models not permanent or SE. The light comes on only when there is a power outage of electricity.
SL models . The light fixtures are not equipped with
batteries, but only the electronic ballasts
(ballasts ) for lighting the fluorescent tube . They
can be powered by a voltage between 160 and 240Vac
and used as normal light bulbs or be connected to
the emergency facilities with centralized rescuer.
degree of protection
The degree of protection IP indicates the mechanical protection of the ceiling to external agents. In the case of lamps are used 2 digits: the first indicates the degree of protection with respect to the contact of solids , the second to the penetration of liquids
brightness
One of the luminaire’s fundamental criterion is the luminous ?ux it emits during an emergency. Along with the radiation diagram, it is used to for the lighting-engineering design of the system.
The luminous flux is obviously related to the
power of the uorescent tube that is utilized, but
above all, it also depends on the output of the
luminaire itself during an emergency. For example, a
high-performance 11W luminaire can emit a luminous
flux which is greater than an 18W one with a lower
output. Within the pages of the catalogue, the
emergency flux of the ceiling light is clearly shown
in the “Flux” column. For the M models 2 values are
provided; one for the Maintained mode and one for
the non-maintained mode, during an
emergency, respectively.
